free The Ballets Russes represent one of the best-known monuments to modern Russian culture worldwide, yet how 'Russian' was the company really?
This lecture reconsiders the historical legacy of the Ballets Russes and asks how we might write a more diverse, less Russo-centric history of its repertoire, dancers, choreographers and composers.
Philip Ross Bullock is Professor of Russian Literature and Music at the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of Wadham College.
With a response by Professor Dr. Lucia Ruprecht, Freie Universität Berlin, Institute for Theatre Studies, Dance Studies Workshop
